ANNUAL STEELHEAD OUTING

On Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 9:00 a.m., SEWTU will host its annual Salmon and Steelhead Outing.  This is an annual SEWTU event, at which many of our members have caught their first-ever lake run salmonid or trout.  If you are an experienced run-fisherman, then this is a great chance to meet up with your SEWTU buddies for some great camaraderie on the water.  If you are a first-timer, or looking to get some pointers, then this is a great chance to get a few tips from some of our Chapter’s best anglers.

Best of all, this is a prime chance to get out and enjoy our Chapter’s home water – a piece of water that much of our work aids.

We’ll meet up at the UWM Park and Ride, located immediately to the west of the Milwaukee River.

To get to the meet-up location, take Capitol Drive to the point there it crosses the Milwaukee River (near Shorewood, WI).  The first street which heads north off of Capitol on the west side of the Milwaukee River is North Humboldt Avenue.  Take North Humboldt Avenue, and travel to the end of the road (about ¼ mile), where you will see a huge parking lot, which UW-Milwaukee uses as a park and ride for its students.

We’ll be meeting in that parking lot, and then we’ll spread out and find the fish!

NOVEMBER ALL-CHAPTER MEETING

On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, SEWTU will have its November general meeting.  Our meeting will be held at the Thunder Bay Grille, located just off of the intersection of I-94 and Pewaukee Road, at N14 W24130 Tower Place, in Waukesha, WI, behind the Mobile Station.  Dinner starts at 6:00ish, with our meeting and speaker to follow at 7:30ish.

November’s speaker will be our Chapter’s good friend, Mr. Pat Ehlers, of The Fly Fishers, Inc., here in Milwaukee.  Pat will speak concerning smallmouth bass on the fly rod.  If there was a warm-water fish species designed with the fly angler in mind the smallmouth bass would be the fish. Pat Ehlers' program, “Smallmouth Bass, A Fish Made for Fly-Fishing” shows you the how, why and where of catching smallmouth bass on a fly rod. Having fished smallmouth since his childhood in northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan Pat's program will help you in pursuit of this fantastic game fish.

So mark the date on your calendar, and stay tuned to the “Calendar of Events” for more information about Pat’s talk as it becomes available.

Stop by, have dinner with the gang, renew some friendships or make some new ones, and have fun!

DECEMBER “HOLIDAY” ALL-CHAPTER MEETING

December’s meeting will be our annual Holiday Party, and will be more “informal” than our ordinary all-chapter meetings.  We’ll look

back at our accomplishments over the past year, and what we’ve got coming up in the new year.

December will also mark the “First Annual Trouty Award Ceremony.”  This will be both a serious and light-hearted look at our Chapter

and it’s members/volunteers.  If you have either a serious award, or a light hearted award that you would like to make a nomination concerning, please send the same to Henry Koltz at hek@sdelaw.com.  Our Board of Directors will consider all nominations, and we’ll put together a program.  Although you may request anonymity at the time of the awards, we do ask that all nominations be accompanied by the name of the person making the nomination, and a telephone number.

The date of this meeting has not yet been set, so stay tuned to the “Calendar of Events” for date information as it becomes available.
